The long awaited Madison Sephardic Mikveh on Avenue R recently opened their doors to the women of the Madison community. The new mikveh is open seven evenings a week. With its serene atmosphere and spa-like feel, it is a lovely and needed addition to our community.

David Sassoon (1792-1864), the founder of the Sassoon dynasty in India, and his eight children established an international empire of trade and commerce. They built libraries, museums, orphanages, schools, the David Sassoon Hospital, an infirmary and leper asylum, and charitable organizations which benefitted the city of Mumbai and the Pune Jewish community. In 1861, they built the Magen David Synagogue in Byculla, Mumbai.

Magen David Students Stand With Israel

A group of Magen David High School students recently joined hundreds of other supporters of Israel at a protest rally outside the United Nations. Organized by StandWithUs, an organization dedicated “to informing the public about Israel and to combating the extremism and anti-Semitism that often distorts the issues,” this rally exposed the distortions, racism and lies that have marred the UN Human Rights Council and its Durban Conferences against Racism.
