Iron Chef 2009

ImageThis summer, the second annual Iron Chef cook-off tournament for Nesach Yisrael took place at the home of Audrey and Stevie Shalom. The tournament was accompanied by a fully-stocked barbecue and an exquisite Chinese Auction. All proceeds were given to Nesach Yisrael, a school for underprivileged and disabled children in Eretz Yisrael, founded and run by Rabbi Victor Harari.  With Hashem’s help and the help of our devoted committee, the night started off without a glitch.

The tournament consisted of 10 teams of three. Each team was given a grill, a table, a piece of chicken, a steak, a burger and a secret ingredient, which had to be incorporated into the three dishes. They were instructed to create three dishes using their own ingredients and utensils. Teams had exactly an hour to present their three dishes, which were graded based on taste, presentation and creativity.

ImageThis year’s judges were Gloria Chabbott, Claudia Bildiricci, Renee Husney and Elliot Dweck. Our judges were at the edge of their seats, salivating over our team’s creations.

Teams made all sorts of meat dishes and the judges were really impressed.  It was tough to choose from all the fabulous creations; however, one team stood out: Haim Abadi, Allen Mustacchi and Marc Zaccai were our first place winners. Each team member received an iHome digital home system and a first place plaque.

ImageThe Nesach Yisrael committee was thrilled by the amazing turn out. The backyard was swarming with people laughing, eating and enjoying the culinary showcase. Thanks to Audrey and Stevie Shalom, we were able to raise a significant amount of money to support our school and its needs.

Nesach Yisrael, literally “the eternity of Israel,” is a school which helps teach, clothe, nourish, medicate, guide and nurture children from broken homes, poverty stricken families and children with learning disabilities and behavioral problems. Rabbi Harari goes above and beyond his call of duty, treating his students as if they were his very own children.

ImageTo keep the school going and the children happy and stable, it is imperitive that we continue to have the love and support of all our community members. With Hashem’s help we will be able to make many more successful fundraisers to provide for this organization.

Nesach Yisrael would like to thank all who attended and supported our cause, and a special thanks to our wonderful and hardworking committee: Eddie Massre, Teri Sutton, Sarita Setton, Shirley Maymie, Suzy Mosseri and Charles Cohen; and to Audrey and Stevie Shalom for graciously opening their home for such a worthy cause.
