There are so many new beauty trends for fall 2013, I don’t know where to start. The artists have gone wild with color—bright, bold, metallic, noticeable color. These rainbow bright colors for your lips and eyes mark a departure from past season’s pastels. If you don’t think you’ll feel comfortable in a bright, bold metallic color, you can still be yourself while adding a little boost from the right hint of new hue.
The best way to decide what to buy is to sample different colors. Discover your signature look for gorgeous eyes. If the color is flattering, and you just want a hint of it, put on a matte nude eye shadow over your concealer and you will soften the shade to the depth that flatters you the most. Another way to determine what colors work best is to mix a little on your inner wrist with nude shadow, thus creating beauty that is tailored just for you.
Most of us have purchased a pretty lipstick or blush, without trying it on and although it looked pretty in the store, it didn’t look pretty on us, so it ended up sitting in a drawer unused. That’s because department stores have florescent lighting and when you go outdoors the colors become bolder.
The new metallic shades are beautiful but they can go on too heavily, especially the gold hues. When using a cream eye shadow, blend with a thick dense brush before it dries. Once the cream eye shadows dry they don’t always blend well.
Coral and khaki are also very trendy eye shadow colors. They can be blended into softer versions and will bring out your eye color. Burgundy is also popular and never seems to go out of style. It looks great with a soft mauve or apricot. Finish off the look with lots of bold eyeliner and heavy mascara.
Coral and red-orange have finally taken hold in lipstick. Burgundy is also popular, for day and night. Matte burgundy lips look striking for evening. During the day, a softer version of burgundy is flattering with a lustrous matching lip gloss. For a natural lip, try colors like ballet pink, apricot, soft purple and deep rose in a sheer, non-sticky lip gloss that feels natural on the lips. If you prefer more color, add the same color matching lipstick underneath.
When it comes to blush, coral flatters most of us. It is especially becoming on fair skin.
Nail polish has also gone wild. Khaki and apricot are the latest in haute color. Shades upon shades of long lasting nail polish and designs are available. Years ago, when we went for manicures, there were only 12 colors to choose from. Now there are 150-200 shades in the nail salon. Moons are being worn as well as a french manicure with colored tips. I am always surprised when I see the variety of styles—anything goes!
Now, more than ever before, eyeliner, lip liner, lipstick and nail polish are available in long lasting colors; they stay on longer and don’t smudge
This fall, color is everywhere, not just in makeup. Clothing, shoes and bags are all available in bright, bold colors. Pick a color scheme and go with it. Have a good time and take extra care to plan your palette for a put together look.
