On Friday, July 17th, supporters gathered at the home of Sarah and Elliot Tamir for Randi’s Care’s second annual fundraiser, a celebration of an organization quietly transforming the lives of community seniors.
Randi’s Care offers free one-on-one in-home and nursing home visits, filling the days of seniors, especially those who are alone or without family, with hope, laughter, and companionship. From Mother’s Day to Rosh Hashanah, the team shows up for every holiday with art, baking, music, and movement, meeting each senior where they are and working with every ability to keep hands, legs, and memories active. Again and again, families watch their loved ones grow sharper and more alive.
No one captured this better than Joyce Silverman, whose father, Victor Dabah, receives regular visits. “Randi keeps our seniors alive,” she said. When Randi arrives, Victor talks business again, dances with his wife, laughs, and plays. Joyce spoke movingly of kibud av va’em (honoring one’s father and mother) and the duty of children and grandchildren to give back to those who gave them everything. Randi’s volunteer Chaim also helps Victor and other men lay tefillin each morning.
Randi’s son, Jacob Levy, reflected on watching his mother devote her life to others. Randi lost her own mother when she was young and cared for her ailing father, still taking him to the beach and to Bloomingdale’s even when he believed he no longer could. “Everything I am, the way I treat people, I learned from watching you,” Jacob said. “I’m so proud to be your son.”
The morning also honored Volunteer of the Year Lena Waingort and Susan Salame, who lovingly styles seniors’ hair. Harry Adjmi praised Randi for doing what no one else does, and Rabbi Joey Haber reminded everyone that those who spread happiness b’simcha earn a great portion in the world to come.
With tears in everyone’s eyes and a standing ovation, the morning affirmed a simple truth. Nothing is impossible.
