Strivright/The Auditory Oral School of New York (AOSNY) recently celebrated their grand opening with a spectacular ribbon cutting ceremony. Nearly 300 people gathered in their brand new, state-of-the-art facility to rejoice.
Strivright is a unique school that focuses on teaching children with characteristics of Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), speech delays and hearing impairment. The Center provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, counseling, music therapy, social skills groups and other services that provide children with the tools to attend mainstream schools and thrive.
Founded in 1999 by Dr. Pnina Bravmann, an audiologist, speech language pathologist, teacher and the mother of a hearing impaired child, Strivright/AOSNY has serviced and changed the lives of thousands of children and their families. After having filled three temporary locations, the school is now finally consolidated under one roof, on the corner of Avenue M and East 34th Street.
Strivrights grand opening was presided over by the captivating Dr. Richard Rosenfeld, Chairman of the Board, and was enthusiastically celebrated by many community leaders and friends. Esteemed Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz delivered a very moving speech and presented an official proclamation to the school. Mr. Markowitz was joined by Councilmen Mathieu Eugene, Lewis Fidler and David Greenfield, as well as representatives of the International Option School Program, The Oberkotter Foundation, members of the NYPD, FDNY and parents.
Guests enjoyed a choir performance by students, many of whom are hearing impaired. The highlights of the evening were provided by former Strivright students. Elchanon Levy, a 13-year-old, read a poem which he wrote and dedicated to the school and Amanda Sahadi, a delightful, profoundly deaf young girl amazed the crowd with an incredible violin performance.
Strivright/AOSNY equips children with the skills that will allow them to listen, talk, think and socialize in a mainstream environment. The school has an astounding 97% success rate in mainstreaming children into their communitys schools by kindergarten. AOSNY has grown into the largest program of its kind and in addition to its Center based program provides services which include early intervention, home based services, auditory verbal therapy, pre-school services, parent/infant groups and so much more.
Strivright/AOSNY also provides SEIT or itinerant services in local community schools. The schools success rate is accomplished through intensive one-on-one therapy and small classroom settings all provided by a professional, experienced and caring team.
