Recently, Magen David Yeshivah held its annual Hanukah carnival. While enjoying Hanukah, MDY students were treated to a well deserved day off. And what better way to enjoy the day than with a fun-filled carnival?
On February 24, 2011, I along with over 200 members of the community will be traveling to Orlando, Florida for an amazing weekend that will culminate in the running of 13.1 miles in the Disney Half-Marathon on February 27, 2011.

One of Barkai Yeshivah’s central missions is to have their students feel excited and inspired by learning. At their annual Literacy Day event, they did just that. Opening their doors to the community, they transformed nearly every classroom in the school into an action packed learning zone.
Like bees flying for honey, countless children rush to centers of fun like Toys-R-Us and Kids-N-Action every Sunday. They love these carefree environments filled with surprise and glee.
In 1948, the New York Sephardic community with roots in Turkey, Greece and Yugoslavia envisioned an innovative home for the aged where their elders could live surrounded by friends in a culturally familiar environment. In 1951, the Sephardic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was established, with 58 residents. Since then, the home has been taking care of elderly Jewish people from both the Sephardic and Ashkenazi communities. The home’s mission is to provide the elderly with the best quality of life in a respectful, dignified, safe, and compassionate environment in accordance with Jewish tradition.
For a child with ADD/ADHD life is a series of disconnected events that always end up being their fault. Imagine growing up in a world where you are constantly upsetting people around you, and you have no idea why. These children get used to feelings of rejection and disapproval. Studies indicate that even when at play, they have a negative impact on their environment. Their world consists of being yelled at, lectured, or punished for one thing or another.
On Friday morning, the 3rd of Tevet (December 10th), Barkai Yeshivah welcomed Rishon LeSion, Rabbi Shelomo Amar, Chief Rabbi of Israel. It was an erev Shabbat that the students of Barkai will not soon forget.
With great anticipation and excitement, Magen David Yeshivah students were honored with a visit from the Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar from Israel. The visit generated tremendous enthusiasm from the over five hundred 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who were privileged to be in presence of the renowned Rishon L’Zion.
Said Mrs. Baila Rosenberg*, a 34-year-old mother of six from Williamsburg who had just donated her kidney to a needy recipient the day before, “It was a match made in heaven. And she told me, ‘I owe you so much! I owe you my life,’ but I said, ‘no, you don’t owe me anything. I gave up my kidney to Hashem, and He decided that you were the one to receive it.’”
The Maimonides Cancer Center—Brooklyn’s only dedicated cancer center—has been designated as a “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” by the American College of Radiology, a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists. This designation recognizes the cancer center for earning accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
