MDY Summer Fun

The serenity and peaceful nature of the summertime gives us all a chance to take a step back and relax for a few months. With that in mind, Magen David’s PTA coordinated two summer events that were uplifting, enjoyable and successful to kick off the summer.

One of the events—an invigorating morning featuring mother/daughter zumba—had mothers and daughters of all ages enjoying an energetic workout with Shirley Catton. Thanks go out to PTA committee members Serene Azar, Frieda Shama and Laura Tawil for organizing the event; to Shirley Catton for donating her time; and to Asher and Debbie Zamir for graciously hosting the event.

The other event was the fifth annual couples bowling tournament at the Bradley Bowling Alley. With almost 50 couples participating, the tournament was a smash hit.

Each team consisted of three couples, who played two games. The teams with the highest combined scores were the winners and were each awarded dinner for two at Back to Nature in Deal for their efforts. The first place winners were: PTA President Sally Cohen and her husband Edward, Ava and Leo Serrur, and Shelly and Alan Safdeye. All of the participants enjoyed the night. In addition to bowling, delicious food was provided by Shimon of Kings Highway Glatt. Each couple was given a complimentary mazza platter for participating.

The evening would not have been possible without the organization and commitment of PTA Presidents Sally Cohen and Lisa Elo, and their exceptional committee of Claudine Bennaim, Linda Sasson, Sarine Segal and the many members of the Magen David PTA. Magen David would also like to thank Back to Nature, Chantilly, Candyland, and Legend Leasing for their generous donations.

It was an excellent opportunity for the Magen David family to socialize together. There will be many more PTA functions throughout the year. The beginning of the school year is a great time to get involved.
