The serene and peaceful nature of the summertime gives us all a chance to take a step back and relax for a few months. With that in mind, Magen David’s PTA coordinated three successful summer events that were uplifting and enjoyable.

The PTA kicked off the summer with a fun and recreational bingo night at the Kassin Beach. Over 70 3rd to 5th graders enjoyed bingo, pizza and prizes! Many thanks to Adele Fallas and Sarine Segal for coordinating the event, and to Joyce and Jack Kassin.

The next event was the third annual couples bowling tournament at the Bradley Bowling Alley. With almost 80 couples participating, the tournament was a smash hit!

It had a simple concept. Each team consisted of three couples, and was designated a specific country with matching flags to vie for the coveted prize of gold, silver and bronze. Each group played two games. The teams with the highest combined scores were the winners and were awarded medals for their efforts. The 1st place winners (for the second year in a row!) were: Geri and Richie Chalme, Laura and Joe Tawil, and Joe and Janet Gindi. Second place winners were: Beth and Joey Dayan, Eva and David Dayan, and Adi and Nathan Hassoun. Joey Dayan was also the high scorer with 210 points, and won a gift certificate to Igloo Ices.

All the participants truly enjoyed the night. In addition to bowling, delicious food was provided by Raquel Habert. Raffles were drawn, including a Blackberry Curve, won by Emily Massry and each couple was given a complimentary Challah for participating.

The evening would not have been possible without the organization and commitment of Linda Sasson, Claudine Bennaim and the many members of the Magen David PTA. Magen David would also like to thank Chantilly, Bread Basket and Candyland for their generous donations.

The third event was Magen David’s annual canasta and mah-jongg tournament at the beautiful home of Renna and Bobby Falack. This year’s tournament was an impressive success. Over 200 women gathered to relax and enjoy a delicious and elegant lunch and afternoon of cards. Adi Hassoun and Robin Esquenazi won the canasta tournament and Pauline Hazan placed first in mah-jongg.

With all of the events, many hours of careful planning and organizing were essential to create a successful tournament. Many thanks to incoming PTA presidents Beth Dayan and Stephanie Kurtz, Jacqueline Franco, Marlene Mann, Ruthy Mann and Adina Sahalon who organized this event beautifully, along with many members of the Magen David PTA.

In addition to the canasta and mah-jongg tournament, everyone enjoyed the gorgeous weather. The Chinese Auction table was artistically displayed by Shannon Wahba, with many exciting prizes to bid on. The PTA would like to graciously thank all our sponsors.

With the upcoming school year approaching, it was an excellent opportunity for the Magen David family to socialize together during the summer months. There will be many more PTA functions throughout the year to look forward to. The beginning of the school year is a great time to get involved!
