Magen David High School Career Day Breakfast

A career can be defined as one’s occupation or profession, which shows a person’s progress or course of action through life. Recently, the 9th grade students of Magen David Yeshivah High School enjoyed an informative program, offering many ideas and suggestions when selecting a career. This comprehensive and enlightening breakfast offered the students an opportunity to engage with professionals in many fields.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, six to eight students were placed in roundtable discussions with 20 professionals from the community. Each professional took time to explain their respective career choices, presented props and answered questions. After 15 minutes, each group switched tables.

The second part of the program was led by the ever energetic Marc Franco, who served as host. Three speakers significantly addressed the students- Abie Jerome, an architect who designed Magen David’s elementary school; Jeff Sutton, real estate; and Evelyn and Amy Gutmer, who are therapists. Each presenter laid the groundwork in their respective fields. Everyone was thoroughly entertained by Rabbi Boianjou’s music!

Many thanks go to Beth Goldberg, Rochel Lapidus, Yaakov Benchaviv and her career discovery team at Magen David High School, Congregation Beth Torah, and to all the professionals that gave of their time and expertise.

Magen David’s mission statement is to show the importance of college: it is the tool for the future. It is equally important for the students to meet real people to give them ‘food for thought.’ Many of the participants from our community are eager to give back to the students of today. With so many careers to choose from, students certainly have plenty of options!
