In August 2002, just two weeks after his 24th birthday, Jeffrey J. Cohen A”H passed away. Ten years have gone by since then, yet it feels like yesterday.
Jeffrey was more than a son, brother, and friend. He had the ability to make you feel at easeeven when you were having a bad dayjust by standing next to you. He could make you laugh when you wanted to cry. His presence had that effect.
He loved all of his nieces and nephews and they adored him. Their faces lit up every time they saw him. He, too, always had a big smile on his face. He loved to do special things for them on their birthdays.
He had a passion for music. He played his guitar for them, and taught them how to play. They loved him so much, that his passing had a tremendous impact on their lives. He was also very loved by his cousins.
They just finished a Sefer Torah in memory of those who passed away without children to say kaddish. His cousins were very sad that Jeff passed away at such a young age, before he could get married and have children. When Jeffrey was a counselor in camp, he started and organized a bake sale and auction in memory of his father Eliot Cohen A”H.
All proceeds went to Camp Simcha. Each summer the camp continues what Jeffrey began. After Jeff passed away his family had a Kids Night Out Auction in his memory. How fitting, his love of children, music, and Torah combined inspired the event.
Jeffrey had so many beautiful traits he was respectful, honest, humble, patient, giving, but the strongest one was never speaking badly of anyone. If he heard someone gossiping, he would leave the room.
Hashem gave his family a very special gift. The joy and love that he gave to his family will always stay with them. The memories they have of him and the things he taught them will also stay, forever in their hearts
Jeffrey you are so deeply missed!
