LDor Vador: From Generation to Generation
G&G Agency, Inc. was founded by Irwin and Nancy Gerechoff, who obtained their real estate licenses in 1967 and, trading as G&G Realtors, opened an office in Asbury Park. After several relocations, the office was finally situated in a vintage home in Deal, where the company remained for 42 years. The Gerechoffs then bought the adjoining property where G&G Realtors is located today.
Irwin and Nancy were joined by their son Russell AH, daughter Abby and their soon to be son-in-law, Steven Scheer, who began with the firm by working weekends and summers while attending Monmouth College.
Russell was well respected in the community and led a successful career in his shortened lifetime. He had a son, Zachary, who obtained his real estate license in 2008. Abby Scheer, Treasurer, worked part-time while raising four children: Jordana, Rachel, Samantha and Russell, and now specializes in the seasonal rental business. Steven, Vice President, has established himself in the community for 33 years and is dealing in both high-end residential and commercial real estate. G&G is now a three generation business with the most recent addition of Samantha Scheer, a University of Maryland college graduate. With her communication degree, Samantha adds to the business her technical and marketing expertise.
Early challenges for the first generation were met by dedication, perseverance and staying in touch with their past connections. Irwin and Nancy grew up in Asbury Park and were able to use the connections from the old neighborhood to get listings for future sales. Irwin recalls a story about the Hess family who used to sell oil out of their truck to local Jewish businesses. From that relationship, Nancy was able to obtain the listing for and sell the Hess home on Roseld Avenue.
The Gerechoff and Scheer families have been dedicated to volunteering and giving back to the community. Irwin served as the State Commander of the Jewish War Veterans and was just appointed by Governor Christie to serve on the board for the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education. Nancy is involved in Hadassah. Steve served on the Congregation Torat El board and has served on several Monmouth County Multiple Listing Service committees. Abby was president of the Ocean Township chapter of Hadassah, and was youth group advisor at Torat El. Samantha participated in Chabads program, Hand in Hand and now participates in Big Brother/Big Sisters of Monmouth County.
Community confidence is acknowledged as G&G Realtors was voted the Best of the Best/One of the Best in the Asbury Park Press Readers Choice Awards for the past 13 years. With the strengthening of the economy, the real estate housing market has improved. An example is the recent sale of the five acre oceanfront property in Deal sold by Steven Scheer for $22.6 millions. Steve, Abby and Samantha have realized the need of the community to service their homes throughout the year so they have started a new business called G&G Property & Real Estate Management Group, LLC.
Just like the Sephardic community, we are a close knit family. We have respect for one another and we help each other in times of need. Our business and values resemble the community because we know what is really importantfamily. We are proud to be a three generation business selling to the third generation of clients.
