Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and the Brooklyn Jewish Heritage Committee recently hosted the annual Brooklyn Jewish Heritage Night Salute to Israel ceremony and reception at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
Winners of an essay, poetry and playwriting contest for high school and yeshivah students were announced, and special presentations were made to this year’s event honorees: Justice Bruce M. Balter, Supreme Court of the State of New York, Kings County; Olga Lipschitz, CEO, Cobble Hill Health Center; Ella J. Weiss, president, Brooklyn Arts Council; Michael Weiss, executive director, MetroTech Business Improvement District; and Esther Lustig, executive director, Human Care Services for Families and Children, Inc.
Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice-chairman, Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, delivered the keynote address. The evening also featured children performing special musical selections and an exhibition of paintings in recognition of Jewish Heritage Month in the Community Room.
