Congregation Edmond J. Safra of NYC recently held an event to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) at Holiday House, The Science Academy Mansion on the Upper East Side in NYC. Our community toured a magnificent designer show house designed by interior designers from NYC and California. All the rooms were designed to benefit BCRF. The Holiday House was founded by Iris Danker with production by Barbara Schorr.
Guest speaker, Dr. Kenneth Offit, is Chief of Clinical Genetics Services at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He was introduced by community event chair-person Sadie Jemal-Meyers, a breast cancer survivor, who feels strongly that educating future generations about cancer will help us get closer to finding cures.
Dr. Abraham Pollack spoke about early detection screening with mammograms, ultra sounds and the importance of funding BCRF.
The crowd gathered in a relaxed atmosphere. Dr. Johnathon Susman of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital spoke about his technique on biopsy and surprised everyone with his double talent, his rendition of “I did it my way,” by Frank Senatra.
Estie Abadie showed appreciation to the guests, saying they were all together for an important cause. Rabbi Dr. Eli Abadie said that the evening was serious, yet enjoyable and thanked the doctors for informing us with such valuable information.
Iris Danker, founder, organized and added ambiance to the designer show house, as volunteer Steve Chera amused the crowd with his upbeat talent and Bob Kayle played the key board with Russel Daisey on the piano.
Thanks to Leonard Blavatnik, for the use of his magnificent house for five weeks, during November and December, which was converted to Holiday House for the Breast Cancer Foundation. Thanks to sponsors Ave J Florists and Monti.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation proudly supports 206 dedicated scientists at major medical institutions around the world, whose research has led to advances in detection, prevention and treatment. Currently, 91 cents of every dollar spent by BCRF is directed towards breast cancer research and awareness programs. For more information, visit www.bcrfcure.org or call 1-866-Find-A-Cure.
