Aishel Shabbat: Where Hesed Never Sleeps

Last year, Aishel Shabbat  received a phone call from a desperate mother who pleaded with them to let her pick up a Shabbat Food Package from their warehouse. Usually all of the organization’s packages are delivered by devoted volunteers, but she was insistent, so they said yes, wondering why. Volunteers asked her for an address, but she was reluctant to give one. So they decided to follow her to see if they could help this distraught mother of three further. What they saw came as a shock. The mother and her three small children were living in an old beat up van. They were homeless.

We like to think these stories don’t exist, in our community, but unfortunately they do. Aishel Shabbat did what they could to help the mother and kept delivering full and fresh Shabbat packages. After a while, she was able to get financial assistance and change her life and the lives of her children.

This is what Aishel Shabbat does. The organization is entirely made up of  volunteers. No one gets a salary. There’s no overheard for rent, secretaries, etc.

One hundred percent of all donations go directly to feed families in our community. There is no embarrassing paper work to fill out and everything is confidential.

Aishel Shabbat is proud to say that they teach our community children all about hesed and how to give back to those less fortunate.

Their 9th Annual Gala Chinese Auction was held on  Motzei Shabbat, recently, at Har Halebanon. It was an incredible evening of hesed and fun.
