Sephardic Link orchestrated a truly wonderful event geared to the parents, families, and friends of our communityâs singles. They had a multipurpose aim: to educate and inspire with extremely knowledgeable speakers, to raise awareness about what needs to be done, to get more of our singles to meet, and to raise funds in order to create many more singles events year round.
Held in the home of Jack and Melanie Kishk, the auction was spectacularâwith unique gifts like the âWin an Engagement Ring Raffleâ and a âLetâs Celebrate Package,â which included everything needed to make a wedding (florist, caterer, party planner, photographer, cake, etc.)
A sumptuous gourmet food and salad bar wowed the crowd who got to fill their lunch boxes with 20 different dishes. The nonstop flow of guests proved that such events are much needed. People lined up to meet the agents (matchmakers) of the Link, to suggest a match, be interviewed, or to sign up a single. Guests also signed up to offer their services and their homes to help out or host future events and gatherings for our youth. This is a true testament to how giving our community is!
The lineup on October 23 included many âLink couplesâ who truly tugged at everyoneâs heartstrings as they discussed how, like many community singles, they never would have entertained the idea of coming to an agent for assistance, but they were glad they did, as it brought them the happiness they were searching for. Link founder Charles Mizrahi, whose dedication to getting singles married is unsurpassed, gave an eye-opening speech which included alarming statistics, that weddings in our community are way down, and it is imperative that we, as a community, do all we can to change those numbers. (All speeches were recorded and can be heard at sephardiclink.com.)
The following day was geared to our women and featured a terrific lineup of speakers who got everyone thinking. âI always go to bake sales to help others, which is great, but for once it was nice to take a day to help myself,â exclaimed one guest who came to say hello, but ended up staying the whole day to hear the speakers! Beautiful prayer cards were given to the guests as they left, including prayers for candle lighting, challah baking and the prayer for finding a mate.
The speakers, volunteers, committee, Link agents, and of course all the supporters who came out, should be applauded. We were astounded by the generous nature of people; many gave monetary donations, others a donation of their effort and time. Thanks to everyone who made this event the success that it was.
An event planning committee has already met to get the ball rolling on future events. If you want to get involved in any capacity please email Kelly@sephardiclink.com. Itâs time for all matchmakers, organizations and community members to unite for a cause we all agree onâbuilding our communityâone couple at a time!
One guest summed it up perfectly in a letter:
Charles,
I want to tell you what an amazing organization Sephardic Link is. I am so happy I came last night. This organization you built must get out there for multiple reasons. Itâs amazing! If there is anything you or your board needs, please feel free to have them reach out to me.
Your organization is special. G-d bless you all for starting it. You should be blessed by all the young kids who are looking to get married! I thank you for inviting me!
