EMTs Visit Magen David Yeshivah

Park Slope volunteer ambulance was kind enough to send three EMTs to give a demonstration at Magen David pre-school to promote safety awareness. The program was presented in a show and tell style to make the children comfortable when there’s an injury or an ambulance. The children got to become junior EMTs for a few hours.

Jack Kishk mentioned that most children panic from the sound or sight of an ambulance, so the EMTs showed them that ambulances help people and are not to be feared.

The children got to see how stair chairs and stretchers work. They saw oxygen masks in use. They got to climb in a real ambulance and bandage “boo boos.” Most children had never seen what’s inside an EMT supply bag and for many, this was their first lesson in safety.

They reviewed pool safety, the importance of bicycle helmets and beach safety. They got to see lights on the ambulance. After they “graduated,” all students were given Junior EMT certificates.

In the long run, these junior EMTs are going to grow up to be the future EMT’s of our community. We are training them from now to be aware and prepared for the future. There’s no feeling more rewarding than saving a life. The younger we teach them about safety, the better.
