Magen David Yeshivah commemorated Yom Haatzmaut with many festive programs. Throughout the school, which was decorated in blue and white, the children and their parents rejoiced. Their enthusiasm captured the true essence of the Jewish people.
Our children are exposed to so much negative media concerning Israel. We therefore have a greater obligation to impart within their souls and hearts the beauty, glory and significance of Eretz Yisroel and the meaning of the miracle of the State of Israel becoming a reality. As we yearn for the building of the Bet Hamikdash, we appreciate that our positive support of the people of Israel will hasten that era in our time, said MDY Principal Rabbi Dr. Baruch Hilsenrath.
To begin the day, the 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys welcomed their fathers for tefilah followed by a special breakfast and rikudim (dancing), while the mothers of the 7th and 8th grade girls were invited to share in the morning prayers with their daughters, and to dance, as well.
Israel has a special place in the hearts of Magen David Yeshivahs staff, parents and students. This was certainly evidenced by the unique celebration that we held this year, said Rabbi Sultan, assistant principal of the upper division.
The younger division played an integral part of the days joyous events. Throughout the halls, one could hear the beautiful melodies of Israel being sung by the students in performances. Their knowledge of the geography, history, and government of Israel were also put to the test in 3rd and 4th grade with rigorous contests, quizzes, and singing performances. All 3rd graders participated in interactive programs.
Rabbi Avi Rosenzweig, assistant principal in the lower division imparted, As soon as you entered our beautifully decorated lobby, you just knew that this day would be one of those special ones that live in your memory forever. Whether it was dancing in the gym, eating at the shuk, the lively color war, the video trip to Israel, or the amazing presentations, you just couldnt beat the uplifting feeling that we all left with. I cant imagine a bigger or better birthday party! Hazak ubaruch (strength and blessing) to all who made he day special.
Parents were proud and amazed by the hard work the students and their teachers put into representing Israel. One parent said, The knowledge our children possess about Israel is a tribute to the hard work and efforts of Magen David Yeshivahs wonderful faculty. As I watched my daughters class taking pleasure in commemorating in Israels birthday, I felt proud and honored to be part of such a special day.
Magen Davids youngest students took a pretend trip to Israel. One young boy reminded his mother to pack a bathing suit for his trip. The journey began with passport in hand ready to visit the unique destinations. The children experienced this journey as if they were actually there. said Terri Mizrachi, Director of the early childhood division.
Each kindergarten class was decorated beautifully. They started their trip in the kineret (Sea of Galilee), where the students went fishing. They toured the city of Sfat and the Kotel. They wrote notes with prayers inside and taped them to the wall. They visited an orchard, a forest, a desert, and shopped at a shuk which the 6th graders created. Then they wrote down which part of the trip they enjoyed the most. It was not an easy decision.
With plenty to do throughout the day, everyone had a fabulous time as the school came together in honor of Israel!
