On Monday of Memorial Day weekend, yet again, DSN gave our families a place to be! At Deal School on Roseld Avenue, Deal Sephardic Network threw a fun event to get the summer started right!
“DSN really nailed it this time!” said Elliot Braha. The all day event began in the morning with a Zumba-thon for the women—one and a half hours of music, 3 instructors, and a basketball court filled with ladies— and that was just in the morning!
At 12:30, SY Grill Guys began grillin’ up a storm with burgers, hot dogs, kebobs, corn on the cob, French fries and more! While some of the 400 people in attendance ate, the kids played sports, ran races, and engaged in some serious potato sack races with Victor Gindi and Lou Zimmerman.
Those who weren’t eating or racing, were bouncing in the Moonwalk, sliding down the inflatable slide, spinning paint in spin art, or filling a bottle with colorful sand! There was popcorn and cotton candy, sno-cones, and more.
“Our unofficial motto has been “something for everyone,” and our DSN Family BBQ, had exactly that.” said Board Member, Margaret Ashkenazi. Thanks to DJ David Esses, the hottest tunes provided a background to the cheers on the fields and the screams at the slide. The highlights of the day were the DSN Ladies’ Softball Team (the mothers) playing against the Hillel Yeshiva High School Girls’ team (the daughters) and the DSN Baseball Coaches (the fathers) against the Hillel Yeshiva High School Boys team (the sons). Unfortunately for the parents, the teens rocked! You could feel the pride beaming off the high schoolers as they slapped hands and cheered their victories! Better luck next year moms and dads.
“That was cool. It’s nice to be a part of DSN. Today I got to play, since I’m usually a counselor.” said Elliot Antebi.
The event’s success would not have been possible without the generous support of our board members, community members, and our local organizations.
“I’m filled with pride, as the director of this organization. I watched an entire community participate from the very beginning, through the planning, and finally to sharing the success at the completion. DSN is a network connected by you, created for you,” said Carrie Fischbein.
Save the date for the 2nd Annual DSN Family BBQ: May 31, 2010! You won’t want to miss it!
