Recently, the Sephardic Community Center held its Sports Scene event at the Cayre Beach in Deal, NJ. The day was filled with fun and excitement. Delicious food was catered by Ouri’s Catering, music was provided by DJ Joco and Ike and famous athletes mingled with the community. The beach was beautifully decorated and the event was very well-organized.
Kids and their dads learned the fundamentals of football, baseball and basketball including, passing, throwing and teamwork at exhilarating sports clinics. Other kids donned huge air gloves and challenged their friends to ‘blow up’ boxing in a big boxing ring.
Norman, from Stormin’s Sports sold footballs, basketballs and sports memorabilia, which community members then bought and brought over to pro athletes including Shaq, Michael Strahan, David Tyree and James Ihedigbo to have them autographed. The highlight of the day was the meet and greet with these superstar athletes.
As I walked into the event, the first thing I saw was hundreds of kids and their dads waiting patiently to meet the stars, take pictures with them and have their memorabilia signed.
A thrilling Chinese Auction included a raffle to win a week on a luxury yacht, and the NFL Opus book, a limited edition of only 19,000 books, containing over 850 beautifully designed pages edged in silver leaf. The in-depth analysis and the story of every Super Bowl is illustrated with over 1,200 astonishing images from famous Super Bowl photographers. The book also contains commentary from many of America’s finest writers. This was another highlight of the event.
Thank you Alice Adjmi, Francine Dweck, Sammy Jemal and everyone who helped out and attended the event.
