During the mid-winter Intercession break of 2007, Yeshivat Keter Torah put together a phenomenal Golf Tournament to benefit the David Mizrahi A”H Scholarship Fund. The Tournament was held at the luxurious Diplomat Country Club in nearby Turnberry Florida. WE ARE BACK FOR A SECOUND ROUND THIS YEAR ON JANUARY 22 2008 again at the Diplomat.
The Scholarship Fund was originated in 2006 and the proceeds are being used to help offset the tuition of those who are unable to afford to pay full tuition in the Yeshiva. David Mizrahi A’H who was a man known to all in the community for his generosity was a founding father of Yeshivat Keter Torah, and sat on its Board of Trustees.
Last years event which was sponsored by Avi and Jennifer Sakkal in honor of their parents raised over $60,000 for the Scholarship Fund. A.J. Gindi who was the director of the event said “We were extremely satisfied with the first years turn out, and we expect to at least double it in next year’s tournament. There was a full day of golf plus an elaborate dinner and award ceremony at the new Sarah’s Tent restaurant. Davy would have been very proud.”
The winner of the ladies Calloway tournament was Frieda Sutton who ended up with a score of 74. In the men’s division it was neck to neck until the last hole, and ended in a tie between Mitchell Gemal and Eddie Fallas who both shot a beautiful 93. Mitchell who also assisted in the event said “what a beautiful day for golf, everyone had a great time and I love that trophy!” Although there was no winner of the $20,000 “hole in one contest” sponsored my Rothstein Asset Management, there were a few close calls.
Other winners were Moe Suede for the longest shot, Irene Gindi for closest to the pin, Linda Maleh for straightest drive and Isaac Ades was the Mens Calloway winner with a score of 73.
