MDY’s Early Childhood Center Open House

With over 65 years of experience in educating our community’s children, Magen David Yeshivah represents a long history of excellence in education, the promotion of community-oriented hesed, and the love of our Sephardic heritage.

“As a mother, how comforting to know that Magen David is my children’s home away from home,” said Gladys Haddad, MDY parent and school volunteer. The recently held Magen David Yeshivah Open House offered parents an opportunity to tour both the early childhood and elementary school facilities.

“We initially only came for the tour, but after having seen the school in action, we registered immediately; there was no question that for my wife and myself, MDY is where we want our children to be,” said one father. “Everyone I speak to is thrilled with the education and overall character development their children receive from MDY,” said another.

Terri Mizrachi, MDY’s Early Childhood Director, beamed with pride as she escorted parents who marveled at the classroom activities and atmosphere. The preschool’s interactive program integrates Ibrit (Hebrew), limude kodesh, and secular studies, infusing midot (values) and customs into every child’s curriculum. “The uniqueness of our Magen David preschool,” continued Mrs. Mizrachi, “is that each and every child is a precious jewel  that our highly professional, loving teachers take time to nurture.”

Parents were eager to continue the tour of the magnificent elementary school building led by Principal Rabbi Dr. Baruch M. Hilsenrath.  “For decades we have transmitted educational excellence coupled with the passion and beauty of our community’s unique traditions and values. We are the link from our glorious past to a promising future,” he said. President Jeffrey Gindi expressed that MDY possesses a powerful partnership with its parents and it is essential to experience the dynamic warmth and spirit emanating from every corner of the school.  Another parent observed, “I am most impressed by the respect the children have for the faculty and the wonderful way they stood up with courtesy as we entered each class.”

As our tour continued, parents were able to observe children throughout the grades incorporating cutting edge “Smartboard” technology into their lessons. Jack Ezon, new MDY parent and volunteer summed it up best, “as a new parents, we chose Magen David Yeshivah not only for its warm atmosphere, but for its educational excellence. Not only was our daughter reading full books by the middle of her kindergarten year, but she also developed a love of reading and learning, something that has stayed with her. She and her friends literally drink up books!  Math skills and Judaic studies are beyond our wildest expectations. Just as impressive, the teachers add a very personal touch and truly tailor their teaching to each student.”

MDY is thrilled to announce that their “Two Year Old” program now includes Fridays. Extended days will be an option from the start of the school year. In addition, we will be adding a class that will commence in January for children born after August 31st.

Special thanks to open house committee members Jennifer Safati, Grace Chehebar, Mazie Kassab and Barbara Hamway on a job well done. Anyone interested in a private tour please contact Adina at (718) 265-3331.
