Mathnasium Holds Grand Opening

John Napoli compares the voids in a child’s knowledge of mathematics with the holes in a piece of Swiss cheese. Napoli, director of the new Mathnasium Learning Center in Ocean, NJ, says the holes represent the missing elements in a student’s math understanding. It could be challenges with multiplication facts, fractions, algebra, or even geometry.

“Math is cumulative and without complete understanding comes the potential for future difficulty. We make sure children master the requisite topics for success,” he said.

Kids don’t really “hate math,” he continued. “What they hate is being frustrated, embarrassed, and confused by math. When a child takes our assessment we gain insight into their cumulative math knowledge base. I know what they should know. The question is what do they know?”

Mathnasium develops a customized program based on the assessment results to fill the holes in the student’s math knowledge. “Every student has a unique knowledge base. We don’t want to bore them teaching topics they understand nor overwhelm teaching concepts beyond their ability. All work is completed in our center under the direction of a highly qualified certified math teacher,” Napoli saiys. This effective technique gives the student exactly what they need—not too much, not too little.

Mathnasium specializes in each branch of mathematics. It serves children from 1st to 12th grade, with programs tailored specifically to each child’s needs.

“Our business helps children in our community achieve success in an area that, for many, can be a challenge. Mathnasium is a worldwide organization with over 250 locations in 9 countries. This method has been proven successful 100% of the time. Our programs are designed to do away with stressful or tear-filled homework sessions and are guaranteed to improve grades. We opened our first center in Middletown early in 2010 and have experienced tremendous success. And we do it at an affordable rate with flexible commitment terms,” Napoli continued.

Mathnasium also helps to prepare students for taking Regents, PSAT, SAT and other similar exams.

“Our programs are designed for children of all ages and skill levels. Many of our students are over achievers and want to stay in front of the pack. I want a student to know how to use numbers and to lever what they do know to decipher what they do not know,” he added.

Napoli also says it’s critical for students not to just vacation in the summer. “You’ve got to practice over the summer. You can’t just turn off the lights in June and come back in September expecting to start at the same level you were at in June. That’s when the brain becomes a sieve and important concepts fall through it.”

Mathnasium offers math-only summer education programs in an attractive and supportive setting for children to develop much-needed math skills and build confidence in their abilities.

We position children for a lifetime of success. “Amazingly over 65% of all students entering college must take remedial math. That is a three credit class that does not count towards graduation at an average cost of over $1,000 per credit. Imagine if you could roll back the clock a few years and spend some of that money making sure your child learns the proper math skills at a younger age. His entire middle and high school experience would be enhanced. His college admission test scores would improve and he might even become eligible for scholastic scholarship. All it takes is early positioning,” concluded Napoli.

Mathnasium is located in Kohls Plaza at Route 35 South and Deal Road in Ocean. Tutoring cost averages $25 per hour. They also offer summer only programs for the seasonal resident.
