Recently Judge Bruce Balter received the John H. McCaddin Award. Mr. McCaddin was a trooper stationed in NY’s Troop K during the 1940s. Due to his activism in the PBA (Police Benevolent Association), he was persecuted; one time he was confined to the barracks for 103 days.
Wanting to do more, he went on educational leave and became an attorney. He was affiliated with the PBA from 1946 to 1969, as both a trooper and a civilian. He served as Troop K delegate, executive secretary, secretary, treasurer and general counsel. He is remembered as someone who relentlessly advocated for better working conditions for troopers. The John H. McCaddin Award is presented to civilians who assist our troopers in times of need.

New York Supreme Court Justice Bruce M. Balter was elected to the New York Supreme Court,2nd Judicial District located in Kings County, in 2003 and has been a relentless advocate for the police community.
A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Brooklyn College and Brooklyn Law School, Judge Balter is determined to protect our neighborhoods from crime and violence and often takes a “no-nonsense” approach when dealing with those who do not honor the law. He is the recipient of numerous awards and citations.
The troopers are appreciative of the judge’s no nonsense approach to crime and for having always having their back
