With intellect 2+2 = 4. This is not true with intuition. Intuition does not have a formula. Sometimes it does not add up at all.
There are some people with high IQ’s that are not intuitive at all and there are others with no education who are highly intuitive. This demonstrates they are two different entities. Perhaps like our genes, intuition is something we are born with. Your instinct can control your actions. This is a difficult concept to deal with.
Maybe if we allow ourselves to be more open minded, we could learn to handle both, but it’s easier said than done.
Let’s talk about intuition—it’s a feeling. Where does it come from? Even though it doesn’t seem to make sense, it’s often there pulling at our brains.
An example: you wake up one morning, waste time and miss your plane. You don’t know why you procrastinated. Something just didn’t feel right. Later you discover the plane you missed crashed.
There are many stories that were told about those who were supposed to be somewhere during an unexpected tragedy, such as 9/11 or the Boston Marathon. For some unexplained reason they didn’t go. It was definitely fate. It saved the lives of those who followed their Intuition.
How do you explain this phenomenon? How do we know when to adhere to our premonitions? Things like this don’t make sense intellectually.
What would you do if your child got up one morning and said she didn’t want to go to school because she was scared that something bad was going to happen? Would you ignore it? Would you think she was being lazy and just making excuses to stay home? How would you know what to do?
This whole concept is so difficult to deal with. I have had several intuitive experiences. I didn’t look for reasons. I threw away my intellect and just went along for the ride. I felt Hashem was taking me by the hand, so I just followed. For someone who has never experienced this phenomenon it is almost impossible to understand.
Wow, how complicated life is!
