Elected Officials Spread Holiday Cheer

Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz and State Senator Carl Kruger teamed up to give toys and books to the children in Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn. The two elected officials went to each bed, visiting the young patients and their families, and presented each child with a gift.

“Holidays are supposed to be a time of family celebration.  Spending time in a hospital during this period is especially difficult for the patients and their families. That’s why Senator Kruger and I went to Maimonides to bring just a little bit of cheer and fun to the patients and also to let their families know that there are people who are thinking about them,” Cymbrowitz said.

“During this holiday season, there is no greater pleasure than to brighten the spirits of children who cannot be home with their families,” said Sen. Carl Kruger, Chairman of the Social Services, Children and Families Committee. “Seeing these children smile is the most satisfying gift that anyone can receive.”

“Maimonides’ doctors and nurses are truly dedicated to doing everything possible to return their young patients to good health as quickly as possible. This brand new, state-of-the-art hospital has the most modern technology and the environment was designed to make the children and their families feel as comfortable as possible. It is my hope that visits such as Senator Kruger’s and mine will help to make the hospital experience a little easier for the kids,” Cymbrowitz stated.

Assemblyman Cymbrowitz and Sen. Kruger visited nearly 50 children in the hospital’s pediatric and pediatric intensive care units. The toys were selected especially for each patient in consultation with hospital staff to assure the safety and appropriateness of the gifts. Additional gifts were donated to the hospital for distribution to future patients.
