“The room was filled with seniors from varied backgrounds coming together to enjoy the afternoon and each other. Not only did they eat and socialize, but they were up dancing to songs such as “YMCA” and “New York, New York,” Assemblyman Cymbrowitz stated. “Our community is fortunate to have so many vibrant senior centers, but they generally function individually. My luncheon provided the opportunity for the members and staffs of these centers to interact in an afternoon of fun and food.”
The seniors took home information about safety, avoiding fraud and protecting themselves from identity theft. They were also able to ask questions of representatives from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. DA Hynes mingled with the participants before addressing the gathering, touching on several issues of interest to seniors, including how his office is more concerned about doing what is best for an elder abuse victim than simply prosecuting the suspect.
“I am glad that a good time was had by all. This was truly an intergenerational event with young people from the Dynamic Youth Community helping with the setup and also during the event. It was beautiful to see how the seniors and young people interacted,” Cymbrowitz concluded.
