Members of this Jewish community, which originated in Iberia and spread throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Southern Europe, frequently gathered from midnight to dawn for life-cycle celebrations, rituals, prayer, study, and merry-making. This concert series demonstrates how these traditions continue to evolve in the context of contemporary culture in Europe, ISrael and the U.S.

The band, Sultana’s Ensemble, featuring Yoel Ben-Simhon, will draw on Arabo-Andalusian Moroccan music that celebrates the end of Passover. Their music immerses tradition in the cross-cultural currents of contemporary urban life.
